While the 14th of February certainly isn't the only day to celebrate your loved one, we're still big advocates of using this day of love as the perfect excuse for time away to reconnect. Think roll-top baths for two, quintessential English cottages and rural hideaways oozing the feeling of complete seclusion.

Whether romance to you is all-day adventures or lazy mornings with breakfast in bed, we round up our top 10 Valentine's Day retreats, suiting all types of lovers.

Nare’s Yard

A haven where nature meets luxury; this Cornish abode holds the ticket to romantic bubble baths under the stars, hikes on the coast path and reminiscing by the woodburner into the early hours of the morning.

Novella

Opt for the alternative group option of two guests at our Devonshire cob cottage this Valentine's Day. Romantics will feel right at home with the feminine colour palette throughout. The master bedroom, our favourite room of this characterful house, is adorned with layered Persian rugs, a roll-top bath and a plush velvet chaise lounge creating the ultimate love nest.

The Hide

For lovers seeking pared-back, contemporary style, The Hide offers a retreat set in the heart of Cornwall. Stroll the golden beaches, tour the nearby Cornish vineyards or simply hideaway in your very own sanctuary, complete with a hot tub and firepit.

Orlagh

Striking style and sea views combine in every room of this couples' cliffside retreat. Set above Cornwall's Whitsand Bay, a three-mile stretch of golden sand, take ocean dips before retiring to the hot tub, not forgetting the bottle of Champagne, of course.

Filly Island

If you're in search of privacy, this Cotswoldian retreat is accessed only by a quaint humpback bridge. Stop by the farmers market for the evening's culinary delights or take a visit to one of the quirky local pubs. For avid walkers, tour the wide-open countryside and picturesque villages along the Cotswolds Way.

Little Portion

A quintessentially English cottage with crooked cob walls and a red tin roof. Little Portion is the epitome of cosy and idyllically positioned near Cornwall's most breathtaking beaches. When the evening draws in, cosy up beside the woodburner in the outdoor living area; this retreat was designed entirely with romance in mind.

Sundance

Come rain or sun, this handcrafted wagon shines in all elements. Rainy afternoons call for lounging in the glass-enclosed veranda with the pitter-patter of raindrops overhead. When the sun emerges from the clouds, head to the nearby Watergate Bay on Cornwall's north coast for a couple's surfing session followed by cocktails on the beach.

The Redes

This sweet Cornish thatch radiates rustic romance with reclaimed materials and organic style running throughout. Take some time to yourselves under the cascading waterfall in the large copper tub, with the roaring woodburner ready for your return.

Dragonwood Boat House

This hidden gem set in the heart of a country estate in Rutland lends 60 acres of private grounds to couples. Time is best spent with Champagne picnics on the jetty, strolls around the lake and evenings by the giant log burner.

Libertine

A Cornish cottage where couples (and their pooch if desired!) can take some time for themselves. Stylish interiors and private surroundings combine to make the ultimate love nest. Cuddle up in the hammock, overlooking fields of wildlife or stop for supplies in the local shop for afternoon tea in the garden.
